
The AFCKDI started in Hamamatsu, Japan in 2007 by delegates from 16 countries in the Asia–Pacific region, which was followed by the 2nd meeting in Kuala Lumpur in 2008 and in Kaohsiung in 2009. This forum does not simulate any of the other existing scientific meetings but serves as a consensus meeting for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) initiative in the Asia–Pacific. The mission of this forum is to promote collaboration and coordination of CKD initiative in our area. During last consecutive meetings, the methodology of collaboration and coordination in CKD initiative in our region has been developed. The IAC was organized at the 2nd meeting in order to ensure the continuity of our mission by this initiative. The IAC not only assists the organization of annual meeting by the local organizing committee, but also serves as a network of active nephrologists in our region in tight collaboration with the Asian Society of Nephrology and national nephrology-related societies . At the 3rd meeting, the IAC decided to organize four work groups by international experts in the Asia–Pacific region: (i) establishing eGFR equation with creatinine standardization (9 members); (ii) CKD registry (36 members); (iii) Regional clinical practice guideline on detection and management of CKD (18 members); and (iv) portal website to facilitate an exchange of information on CKD initiative in Asia–Pacific (3 members). The 4th meeting In Seoul was oraganized in adjunction with the Asian Congress of Nephrology meeting in 2010. After the 5th meeting in Guangzhou, China, the first Asian guideline of CKD was published as "The Asian CKD Best Practice Recommendation". The 6 th meeting in Chandigarh, India devoted on promoting Asian CKD Registry initiative. The 7th meeting will be in Bangkok, Thailand in August of 2013.
